The Ventura Film Festival began in 2004 and has displayed hundreds of movies, typically more than 200 films every summer, and has captured notice from the global cinema community. Distinguished events have encompassed welcoming acclaimed filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the original world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend and surf legend Ian Cairns, 4x world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/MMA combatant martial arts icon Fabio Leopoldo, and the 50-year anniversary of West Side Story, which included hosting the complete Oscar-winning ensemble of West Side Story, encompassing Academy Award winner/Golden Globe recipient George Chakiris and Golden Globe winner/Academy Award nominated Russ Tamblyn.
